IDEAL Shower Doors

Frameless Glass Shower Door, Brushed Nickel, Arlington MA

Walking into this Arlington, MA bathroom before we started, the shower felt more like an open nook than a finished space — pretty vertical subway tile and a beautiful hexagon mosaic floor, but nothing to define the edges or hold in the warmth of a hot shower. From the design side at IDEAL, working with homeowners every week to plan their perfect bathroom, this is one of my favorite kinds of projects: a space with genuinely great bones that just needed the right custom shower enclosures to pull it all together.

Before and after frameless glass shower door with brushed nickel hardware in an Arlington, MA bathroom with subway tile

A Frameless Enclosure That Frames the View

We set a fixed glass panel and a hinged door in IDEAL Crystal Clear Glass, finished with a brushed nickel handle, hinges, and a horizontal back-to-back towel bar that reads more like a design detail than hardware. The homeowners already had a window centered on the back wall, so we treated the glass as a frame for it, letting daylight travel straight through the enclosure instead of stopping at a curtain or a half-wall. Every piece of hardware, right down to the new handheld shower fixture, was swapped to a matching brushed nickel finish family so nothing in the stall competes for attention.

From Open Alcove to Defined Spa Retreat

In the before photo, the shower had no real boundary, the tile and the mosaic floor were lovely, but the eye had nowhere to land and the warm bronze fixtures fought with the cool, bright tile. After, the glass gives the whole alcove a sense of enclosure and intention: the vertical lines of the subway tile now travel uninterrupted behind crystal-clear glass, and the hexagon floor reads as a deliberate design choice rather than an afterthought. It’s the same footprint, but it finally looks like the spa-style shower it was always meant to be.

Why IDEAL Crystal Clear Glass Was the Right Call Here

With a window bringing in that much natural light, standard glass would have thrown a noticeable green cast across the white subway tile and washed-out mosaic floor. IDEAL Crystal Clear Glass keeps the tile’s true white tone intact and lets the natural light bounce cleanly through the enclosure instead of tinting it. For a bathroom this bright, it was the difference between a shower that just has glass and one where the glass genuinely disappears.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between chrome and brushed nickel for my shower door hardware?

Chrome is bright, reflective, and reads more formal, it’s the finish to choose if your faucets and cabinet pulls already lean shiny and polished. Brushed nickel, like the finish family used in this Arlington project, has a warmer, softer sheen that hides water spots and pairs beautifully with matte or satin fixtures. The easiest rule is to match your shower hardware to your existing faucet finish so the whole bathroom feels cohesive rather than assembled from different eras.

Will frameless glass make my small bathroom feel bigger, and where can I see examples near me?

Yes, frameless glass removes the visual clutter of a metal frame and lets your eye travel straight through to the tile and window behind it, which makes even a compact stall feel more open. If you’re searching for frameless shower doors near me, our design team keeps a full portfolio of completed installs across the North Shore and MetroWest, including projects like this one in Arlington.
