# Which Shower Door Seal Do I Need?

By the [IDEAL install crew](https://idealshowerdoors.com/) · Frameless glass showers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire since 2014 · Updated 10-04-2026

The right seal depends on two things: **where the water is getting out** and **how thick your glass is**. Find the leak in the table below, then match the thickness.

| Where it leaks | Seal you need | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Under the door** | A bottom sweep or bottom wipe with drip rail that pressure fits onto the bottom edge of the glass | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/bottom) |
| **Where the door closes into a glass panel (straight line)** | A 180° H-jamb or Y-jamb on the panel edge | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/inline-180) |
| **Where the door closes against a wall** | A multi-purpose 'H' wipe on the door edge, or a tape-on bulb seal on the wall | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/inline-180) |
| **Along the hinges** | A multi-purpose 'H' wipe on the hinge side, or a bulb seal | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/bulb-fin) |
| **At a 90° corner panel** | A 90° strike seal | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/corner) |
| **In a neo-angle (135°) shower** | A 135° door jamb or strike jamb seal | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/corner) |
| **Door closes glass-to-glass and won't stay shut** | A pair of magnetic seals | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/magnetic) |
| **Bottom of a framed (metal) door** | A slide-in vinyl sweep | [Shop →](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/c/framed) |

## Then match your glass thickness

Clip-on seals are made for one thickness: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8" or 1/2". [Here's how to measure it](https://idealshowerdoors.com/store/measure) in about a minute. Tape-on seals (bulb, fin, L, V) are chosen by the gap they close instead.

## Check the gap

Each seal lists a suggested gap. With the door closed, measure the space the seal has to fill. Bottom sweeps commonly handle about 7/16"; most door-to-panel jambs are designed for about 3/16".

## Our installers' go-to seals
