Shower Door Leaking on the Hinge Side or at the Wall

The hinge side has a gap so the door can swing. Water sprays through it, especially with a shower head aimed at the door. One seal usually fixes it.

Door hinged to a wall

Put a multi-purpose 'H' wipe on the hinge edge of the door. It pressure fits onto the glass and its soft legs close the gap to the wall. We use CRL P375HW on 3/8" doors all the time; for 1/2" glass it is CRL P500HW, and CRL P312HW for 5/16".

Another industry-standard option for the pivot side is a dual-durometer seal like CRL P880WS (3/8" glass): its rigid clip runs up the door edge and the soft lip seals against the wall.

Door hinged to a glass panel

The same 'H' wipe works on the hinge side where the door meets the panel that supports it. If the door closes into a panel on the latch side in a straight line, use a 180° H-jamb like CRL P380HJ on the panel edge.

Door closes against a wall

Use the 'H' wipe on the door edge, or a tape-on bulb seal on the wall such as CRL SDTB. Tape-on seals are chosen by the gap they close, not the glass thickness.

How to measure the gap

Close the door and measure from the glass edge to the wall or panel at the top, middle and bottom. Walls are rarely perfectly plumb; choose the seal for the largest gap.

Common questions

What seal goes between a glass shower door and the wall?

A multi-purpose 'H' wipe on the door edge, like the CRL P375HW for 3/8" glass, or a tape-on bulb seal on the wall.

Why does my shower leak along the hinges?

The hinge side needs a gap so the door can swing. Without a seal, spray goes straight through it.

Will a hinge-side seal stop my door from opening?

No. 'H' wipes have soft legs that flex as the door swings.
