Shower Silicone, Tape, Scrapers & Tools

Mildew-resistant clear silicone for sealing glass and metal in the shower; clear, double-sided, very-high-bond tape for mounting bulb, fin, L, V and T seals to the glass edge or wall, and plastic trim snips that cut vinyl and plastic seals to length cleanly, straight or at an angle.

Common questions

What tape holds shower door seals?

Clear acrylic VHB (very-high-bond) double-sided tape. Our 1/4" x 36' roll fits the 5/16" base of stick-on seals.

How do I remove old silicone or VHB tape from tile or stone?

Spray stubborn residue with a remover like the CRL CRLSRK1T kit, then scrape it off with a single-edge razor blade in a holder like the CRL RS65, keeping the blade low and flat to the surface. Wipe the area with rubbing alcohol so new tape or silicone bonds.

How do I get hard water spots off my shower door?

Use a cleaner made for mineral deposits, like CRL WSR1 Bio-Clean: rub it in with a damp cloth, then rinse. It removes spots and soap scum on the surface, but it can't repair glass that is already etched.

What silicone should I use around a glass shower door?

A mildew-resistant 100% clear silicone like CRL 33SMRC. Remove all old sealant first, and don't use it on marble, limestone or mirrors. If the hardware is brass, use neutral-cure CRL RTV408C instead.

Which silicone should I use with brass shower hardware?

Use a neutral-cure silicone like CRL RTV408C. Standard acetic-cure silicone (the vinegar-smelling kind, like 33S) releases acid as it cures and can turn brass green.

How do I get a clean, straight silicone line?

Run painter's tape like 3M7890 along both sides of the joint, apply the silicone, smooth the bead, then pull the tape right away while the silicone is still wet.

What is the best way to cut a shower door seal?

Plastic trim snips like the CRL PTS89 cut vinyl and plastic seals cleanly in one squeeze, straight or at a 45° angle. A fine-tooth hacksaw also works on rigid seals.
