About this product

CRL RTV408 is a neutral-cure (non-acetic), low-odor, 100% silicone. Use it instead of standard acetic-cure silicone like 33S whenever the shower hardware is brass: acetic silicone gives off acid as it cures and can turn brass green, while RTV408 is non-corrosive to metals. It bonds to glass, ceramic tile, aluminum, stainless steel and most plastics without primer and cures to a tough, flexible rubber. Sold by the single 10.3 oz tube; fits a standard caulking gun. Not for aquariums, acrylic or polyethylene plastics. Cure it in a ventilated area; curing in a closed room with no daylight can cause yellowing.

Common questions

Why does silicone turn brass green?

Standard acetic-cure silicone gives off acetic acid (the vinegar smell) while it cures, and that acid corrodes brass. Neutral-cure silicone like RTV408C does not.

When should I use RTV408C instead of 33S silicone?

Whenever the shower door hardware is brass. Neutral-cure RTV408C is non-corrosive to metals, so it will not discolor brass.

What does RTV408C not work on?

CRL does not recommend it for aquariums, acrylic or polyethylene plastics. Cure it in a ventilated area; curing in a closed room with no daylight can cause yellowing.

Can I return the RTV408C?

No. All sales are final, so please check that it is the right product before you order.
