How to Clean Matte Black Shower Door Hardware
Matte Black hardware hides fingerprints well but shows water spots and soap film more than chrome does, and the flat finish can turn shiny or patchy if you scrub it. Gentle, regular cleaning keeps it looking even.
Step by step
- Rinse and dry. After showers, wipe the hinges, handle and clamps with a dry microfiber cloth along with the glass. Water drying on the finish is what leaves white spots.
- Weekly wipe. Mist IDEAL Conditioner on a soft microfiber cloth (not straight onto the hardware) and wipe with light pressure.
- Buff dry. Finish with a dry part of the cloth so no streaks are left on the flat finish.
- For built-up spots. Repeat the gentle wipe a few times rather than scrubbing harder. Pressure is what polishes a matte finish into shiny patches.
What not to use on Matte Black
- Vinegar, lemon or any acidic cleaner. Acids can dull or discolor metal finishes. We don't use or recommend them.
- Magic erasers, scrub sponges, scouring powder. Abrasives polish the matte finish and leave shiny spots.
- Razor blades. Use them on bare glass only, never on hardware.
- Bleach and harsh bathroom sprays. They can stain or fade the finish.
Glass and hardware together
The IDEAL Bath Kit restores and seals the glass. Keep Restore and TopCoat on the glass, and use only Conditioner on the hardware.
