How to Remove Soap Scum from Glass Shower Doors

Soap scum is soap mixed with body oils and the minerals in your water. It sticks to glass as a dull, gray film, and on most showers it sits on top of hard water spots. Clean both layers, then seal the glass, or the film comes right back.

Step by step

  1. Rinse the glass. Warm water softens the top layer of scum.
  2. Lift the film. Spray IDEAL Conditioner on the glass and work it in with a microfiber cloth. It's soapless, so it doesn't leave new soap behind.
  3. Check for white spots underneath. If the glass still looks cloudy once the film is off, hard water spots are bonded under it. Restore, step 1 of the IDEAL Bath Kit, lifts them.
  4. Seal the glass. TopCoat, step 2 of the Bath Kit, puts a water-repellent coating on the clean glass. Scum and spots have much less to grab onto.
  5. Keep it off. Squeegee after showers and give the glass a quick weekly pass with the Conditioner.

What not to use

Why it comes back

Bar soap and oily body washes leave more scum than liquid soaps do. A quick rinse of the glass before you squeegee helps a lot.
